4 ways to unclog a clogged kitchen water pipe

Clogged kitchen sinks are a common occurrence, and most people either spend money on chemical drain cleaners or hire a professional home drain service. But there are actually quite a few simple ways to get around this problem, and it's a good idea to try it out before you buy a drain cleaner or call for a home service. Method 1: Use household tools

Use a bent hanger

Begin by taking apart and straightening the hanger, and using a vise to bend one end at a 90-degree angle, make sure the hook goes into the sink drain to unclog the water pipe. Remove the filter from the sink, insert the hooked end of the hanger into the drain, then turn and pull up, repeating until the water pipe blockage is hooked out of the drain. For double sink sinks, you need to rotate the hanger and pull until you feel it hook onto the flap, which is a little narrower than the rest of the drain. Then, turn up and down while turning to clear the blockage.

Use a wet and dry vacuum cleaner to suck out the blockage.

MeMethod 2: Use a natural pipe cleaner

1. Flush the sink drain with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. First flush the drain with a pot of boiling water. Then, mix 1 cup (240 ml) of boiling water with 1 cup (240 ml) of vinegar. Add another 1/2 cup (120 ml) of baking soda to the solution of boiling water and vinegar, which should bubble up at this point. After letting the mixture sit in the sink for at least 1 hour, rinse the sink drain with hot water again. If this method does not work, it may be severely blocked. Try using mechanical unclogging methods.

2. Use a mixture of salt, baking soda and hot water. Start by pouring about 5 liters of hot water into the sink, then 1/2 cup (64 grams) of table salt into the measuring cup, then mix with 1/2 cup (64 grams) of baking soda. Pour the mixture slowly down the drain and after letting it sit for 10-20 minutes, rinse the drain with hot water.

2. Remove the U-bend attached to the sink drain. The U-bend serves two functions: 1. to deodorize, and 2. to prevent garbage from flowing into the main pipe causing more difficult-to-treat blockages. If it is a PVC U-bend, it is likely to be held together with a cylindrical threaded joint, which can be removed by unscrewing it counterclockwise by hand. If bolted on, you will need to turn it counterclockwise with a pipe wrench to remove it. After removing the u-bend, check to see if it is blocked, if not, go to the next step.

3. Insert the spring of the simple pipe dredging into the pipe until it cannot be inserted, and then start to turn the handle clockwise to push the spring forward in the pipe. When you feel resistance to the spring, turn the handle counterclockwise and pull back. Turn the handle clockwise again to push the spring forward until the pipe is unblocked. This process requires a certain amount of patience and trial and error. After confirming that the pipeline is dredged, install the U-shaped pipe.

Method 4: Use a chemical dredging agent

There are two kinds of chemical pipe dredging agents: strong alkali and strong acid, and there are two kinds of drainage pipes: galvanized cast iron and PVC. Houses built in the 1990s and before were mostly galvanized cast iron pipes, while modern houses use PVC pipes. It should be noted that strong acid pipe dredging agents are highly corrosive to galvanized cast iron pipes, which may cause adverse consequences. Do not pour strong acid pipe dredging agents into cast iron pipes. If you must use them, please consult professionals. Use below or follow the manufacturer's instructions. PVC pipes have good corrosion resistance, so this problem does not exist. Pipe dredging agent can solve the problem of clogging the kitchen sink very well, and it is almost a medicine to cure the disease. Note the following when using chemical duct dredgers

If you don't know how to tell the type of pipe, you can tap the pipe with a wrench or iron rod, the galvanized iron pipe will make a sound, but the PVC pipe will not.

Inform the merchant or salesperson of your purpose, and they will recommend corresponding products for you according to the actual situation. Different pipeline dredging agents may be used in different situations. For blocked kitchen sinks, strong alkaline dredging agents are usually used.

Do not mix different types of pipe dredging agents. The simultaneous use of strong alkalis and strong acid dredging agents will cause violent chemical reactions, which is very dangerous.

Read the manufacturer's instructions carefully for the recommended dosage and waiting time. Wear safety gear such as goggles and rubber gloves, and slowly pour the dosage listed by the manufacturer. Method A: Chemical Treatment

The dredging method is: put the steel bar into the water pipe, continuously pull and turn the steel bar up and down, and lift or push the blockage in the pipe to the main pipe of the drain pipe and the direction of the outlet. After dredging, rinse off the dirt in the pipe with plenty of water, and use hot water to help dissolve the grease.

When using, be careful not to hard plug and hard pull, so as to avoid the steel bar being directly broken and stuck in the tube, which will cause more serious blockage.
